Prof. TAO Xiaoming is the Chair Professor of Textile Technology, School of Fashion and Textiles, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). She earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Textile Engineering from the East China Institute of Textile Science and Technology with a 1st class prize and a PhD degree in Textile Physics from the University of New South Wales in Australia.

Prof. Tao has made significant contributions to research in intelligent fibrous materials, nanotechnology, photonic fibers and fabrics, flexible electronic and photonic devices, yarn manufacturing, and textile composites. She has published over 300 articles in internationally renowned journals including Nature Communications and Nature Sustainability, which have been cited more than 13,000 times. She has received widespread recognition for her achievements with garnering more than 40 awards such as the Honorary Fellowship of the Textile Institute in 2011, the highest individual award in textiles and the Founder’s Award from the Fiber Society of the USA in 2013. She was also listed among the top 2% most-cited scientists in both 2022 and 2023.
