Biography
Prof. Youhua TAN is the Programme Leader (MSc) and an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU BME). He earned a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China and a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering from the City University of Hong Kong respectively. After completing the postdoctoral training in University of Illinois, he joined PolyU BME as a tenure-track Assistant Professor and was promoted to tenured Associate Professor in 2021.
Prof. Tan aims to unveil the roles of mechanical cues in tumor metastasis and develop new mechanomedicine and mechanotargeting strategies in his research. His works have been published in multiple top-tier international journals such as Nature Materials, Nature Communications, Science Advances, Research, Oncogene, Nano Letters, Bioactive Materials, Acta Biomaterialia and Biophysical Journal. His research capability has been recognized by securing competitive grants, i.e. HKD$7M for internal grants, HKD$22 million for external grants including Hong Kong Research Grant Council General Research Fund (GRF), Hong Kong Research Grant Council Collaborative Research Fund (CRF), National Natural Science Foundation of China General Programme (NSFC) and Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission Basic Research (STIC).
