Biography

Prof. Arnold WONG is the Programme Leader of BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and Associate Professor at the Department of Rehabilitation Studies, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (First Class Honours) from PolyU. After several years of practice as a physiotherapist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, he was dedicated to pursue a career in academia and obtained his PhD from the University of Alberta, Canada.

Prof. Wong's research focuses on exploring the mechanisms that contribute to or sustain spinal disorders, osteoarthritis, and musculoskeletal pain. By employing a variety of strategies including advanced imaging, biomechanical testing, and epidemiological or qualitative research, his work elucidates the relationships between pain and a variety of physical and psychosocial factors, offering valuable insights for researchers and clinicians in addressing musculoskeletal pain. Furthermore, Prof. Wong has made notable contributions to ageing-related research with multiple publications in esteemed international journals such as Lancet Rheumatology, Journal of Pain Research and Sleep Medicine Reviews. His work has received numerous accolades including but not limited to the International Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment Best Paper (2019) and the Hong Kong 31st Annual Congress of Gerontology Outstanding Paper (2024). He has also secured a total over HK$35.8 million research grants from funders such as Health Bureau, University Grants Committee and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich.
