劉博士在華盛頓大學醫學院獲得康復治療與參與科學博士學位,並在匹茲堡大學完成了睡眠醫學與複雜性干預的博士後研究。在加入香港理工大學康復治療科學系之前,他曾在華盛頓大學醫學院擔任職業治療學與神經科學的助理教授。
劉博士的研究重點是心理健康、睡眠與認知的交互作用。他的使命是開發精確而又方便病人的個人化康復治療計劃,旨在減少殘疾並提升社區健康。他致力於了解睡眠、心理健康與認知之間的複雜機制。他的研究利用流動醫療科技,提供即時的體內監測,識別患上神經疾病後導致不良結果的因素。這些研究促進了複雜性干預的開發,從而改善患者健康,並支持他們在社區中的功能表現。他的研究已在多份頂尖康復治療與睡眠醫學期刊上發表,並獲美國國家衛生研究院資助的康復治療大型數據研究中心頒授青年研究者,還獲得了美國睡眠醫學學會2024年度青年研究者獎項。
