Course no.: 03-01-EXC-13061-A
Survival Spanish for the Chinese Visitor
This course aims to introduce basic level Spanish to students without any previous knowledge. Students will practice the target language in simulations and role-plays related to a range of topics about Spanish culture and everyday life. This will allow them to better understand and produce basics sentences in contextual interactions. The course develops elementary writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills in Spanish; however, class time will be geared towards practicing oral communication about interesting topics related to everyday life in Spain. This course will be of particular interest to students wanting to get a taste of learning a European language other than English, and to open a window into a Romance language and its culture.
Purpose:
By the end of the course students will be able to:
- Have very basic conversations with native speakers about familiar topics
- Use elementary vocabulary related to the course topics (e.g. personal information, shopping, travelling)
- Understand written information and produce simple texts about food and travel (e.g. buying tickets online, booking a hotel room, filling in a form with personal information)
- Communicate about simple tasks (ordering food and drinks in a restaurant, shopping, and asking about transportation and accommodation)
