BEAM Society Limited (BSL)

Design Brief

BEAM Society Limited (BSL) is a non-profit, scheduled public body dedicated to the decarbonisation of the built environment. As such, BSL is the owner of BEAM Plus, the prevalent green building standard in HK.

BSL requested a proposal for a comprehensive branding campaign to promote its soon-to-be-released BEAM Plus Interiors version 2.0 (BI v2.0), which is a tool to reduce the carbon footprint of renovations. In particular, BI v2.0 is designed to promote decarbonisation practices and targeted interior fit-out, renovation, and refurbishment works. The student creators proposed a multimedia solution to create engaging marketing and advertising campaigns for BI v2.0 that would capture the attention of the target audience. Specifically, they proposed the creation of videos, mobile applications, websites, interactive advertisement, or social media campaigns that included images, videos, and animations.

Design Outcome

The student creators came up with the idea of folding the BI V2.0 brochure design template into a tangram puzzle to enhance its visual appeal. The brochure promotes and provides information about BI V2.0 to a target audience mainly composed of the general public. It presents key details, features, benefits, and contact information in a concise and visually attractive manner, in English and Chinese, and will be distributed at events.

In addition, the student creators used a set of physical mock-up models and the layout of the client’s offices to propose a new layout for two areas in these offices. The ultimate goal when designing the layout for area A was to achieve “Platinum” status under BI v2.0. 

Most of the design concepts generated by the student creators were licensed to BSL in 2024.
