Summary

ig
The "Blooming Mechanical Flowers" is a school programme in which students gain knowledge on digital fabrication and electro-mechanical design through hands-on workshops on assembling mechanical flowers from 3D printed as well as commercial off-the-shelf components, and apply their creativity to design an installation using those mechanical flowers.

Through this programme, we engage students who are not only interested in engineering and technology, but also students who are interested hands-on making as well as creative and aesthetic expressions. We first ran this school programme for three local secondary schools in the academic year of 2022-2023, with an exhibition showcasing their creative works in May 2023 in the Jockey Club Innovation Tower (JCIT), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
R5-333
Through the "STEM Education Project of the Youth" organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers (HKFEW) and funded by the Bank of China (Hong Kong), we extended the programme to ten local secondary schools in the academic year of 2023-2024, and another ten schools in 2024-2025.

While we celebrate creative works from students of participating schools in the 2023-2024 cohort, we are looking forward to seeing more creative ideas in the coming cohort in 2024-2025.
