Profile
Rina worked for a Hong Kong-based NGO before becoming a philosophy/ethics lecturer in PolyU. She joined the Office of Service-Learning (now SLLO) in 2019 and has since been dedicated to advancing service-learning through research-based and experience-informed programme development and practice. Her publications employ qualitative and mixed methods, and include studies about service-learning assessment, reflective pedagogy, and impact on all stakeholders. For Rina, service-learning powerfully combines academic and experiential learning with community service: programmes which are purposefully designed and implemented bring about student outcomes that go beyond classroom learning, and community benefits that surpass ordinary volunteering.
Trained in Western and Chinese intellectual histories, Rina completed her undergraduate degree in Manila (BA Humanities, 1996), then pursued further studies in Hong Kong (Adv Dip Chinese Language & Culture, 1999), Rome (Lic Philosophy, 2002) and Taipei (PhD Philosophy, 2015).
