The question pronoun "jǐ " (how many, how much, how old, etc.) is commonly employed to inquire about numerical values, quantities, ages, times, etc. Different nouns can be added after "几" to specify what is being asked specifically.  For example, the noun "suì 岁" (age) can be added to "几" to specify that the speaker wants to ask about age. In Cantonese, one can inquire about a person's age using both "幾歲" and ""幾多歲," while in Mandarin, only "几岁" is used and "几多岁" is not an accepted way to ask about someone's age. Additionally, note that in mandarin, "几"   is usually used when the number of inquiries is less than ten, unlike Cantonese where there is no limit to the number.
