In Hong Kong, we used "hào 號" after the bus number.  In Mainland, people used "lù 路" instead. If the bus number is monosyllabic, the modifier "路" or "號" is necessary. When it is disyllabic or trisyllabic, the modifier is optional. For example:

In a trisyllabic bus number, the character "一" is often pronounced as "yāo" in spoken language, as indicated in the table above.
