Dr. Janet Ng, Associate Professor of Practice

Dr. Janet Ng is currently Associate Professor of Practice of the Speech Therapy Unit in the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences from The University of Hong Kong and qualified as a speech therapist. This was followed by a Master of Medical Sciences degree from The University of Hong Kong, majoring in public health and administrative medicine. She was later awarded Doctor of Health Science from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with Dean’s Honours.

 

Dr. Ng had solid front-line clinical practice and extensive management experience prior to joining the University as clinical educator. She began her career as speech therapist at a private audiology and speech therapy group in Hong Kong, offering diagnostic and rehabilitative speech therapy services to clients with various communication and swallowing disorders. She later opted for focusing her talents on clinical management and had held regional leadership positions in Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore in a multinational corporation offering audiology and speech therapy products and services.

 

Dr. Ng is passionate in developing the speech therapy profession and had been elected as the Chairperson of The Hong Kong Association of Speech Therapists for five consecutive years from 2005 to 2010. She had also been appointed as the Founding Chairperson of the Professional Council of the Hong Kong Institute of Speech Therapists and served the Institute during 2018 to 2024, leading the management of the Register of Speech Therapists accredited by Department of Health. Dr. Ng has been invited by various organizations in Hong Kong, Macau and China to deliver training on speech therapy, voice disorders, aural rehabilitation and other professional issues relevant to communication disorders.

 

Dr. Ng’s clinical and research interests span across various aspects of communication disorders and clinical education, including speech therapy, aural rehabilitation, health behaviour change, evidence-based practice, third party disability, and problem-based learning (PBL).

 

Dr. Ng is a Full Member of The Hong Kong Association of Speech Therapists and a Speech Therapist in Accredited Register.

 

Dr. Ng is fluent in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin.
