Dr. Cymie Ng, Assistant Professor of Practice
Dr. Cymie Ng is currently Assistant Professor of Practice of the Speech Therapy Unit in the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences degree from The University of Hong Kong and qualified as a speech therapist. This was followed by a Master of Medical Sciences degree from The University of Hong Kong. She later pursued her doctoral study at the Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and was awarded PhD, with her study focusing on the application of speech recognition technology on speech sound disorders.
Dr. Ng started her professional career as speech therapist at a special child care centre, serving children with various special educational needs. She later joined a private audiology and speech therapy practice, offering diagnostic and rehabilitative speech therapy services to clients with various communication and swallowing disorders. Her clinical expertise includes childhood speech sound disorders, autistic spectrum disorders as well as communication and swallowing disorders associated with medical pathologies. Prior to joining PolyU, Dr. Ng had served as clinical educator for other local speech therapy programmes. She had also presented in international scientific conferences and published clinical materials. She currently focuses on clinical speech therapy education, supervising student speech therapists’ clinical practicum.
Dr. Ng has strong passion in contributing to the speech therapy profession. She had served as the Treasurer of The Hong Kong Association of Speech Therapists from 2005 to 2009. She has always been actively supporting the training of rehabilitation practitioners in mainland China and had participated in numerous charitable missions to serve the underprivileged in China.
Dr. Ng is a Full Member of The Hong Kong Association of Speech Therapists and a Speech Therapist in Accredited Register. She is also a certified provider of Deep Pharyngeal Neuromuscular Stimulation, VitalStim Therapy, Guardian Therapy, Estill Voice Training, Beckman Oral Motor Assessment and Intervention and Oral Placement Therapy.
Dr. Ng is fluent in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin. |
