The Department of Computing (COMP) proudly hosted the Award Presentation Ceremony for the "Case-based Competition on Helping Disabled Learners Using Apple Vision Pro" on 10 April 2025. This competition aimed to guide students through a case-based approach to solving real-life problems in collaboration with relevant organizations. In particular, students are encouraged and guided to explore innovative functions and accessibility features of Vision Pro (e.g., eye tracking) to help disabled learners in collaboration with Octopus InfoTech founded by an alumnus of COMP. The event was honoured by the presence of Ir Professor T.K. Tsui, Outstanding Polytechnic Alumnus and Senior Advisor to the President, and Prof. Raymond Sze, Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) of the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences. Prof. Sze expressed heartfelt gratitude to the sponsor, the 'Au Bak Ling Charity Trust,' and other supporters, including the Hong Kong Red Cross John F. Kennedy Centre and Octopus InfoTech, for their invaluable contributions. Ms Angela Au, Executive Director of the Au Bak Ling Charity Trust, commended the participating students for their dedication and congratulated the winners. She emphasized the importance of nurturing young individuals with empathy and social responsibility, describing them as the assets and hope of our future. Mr Jimmy Fung, representative of the Hong Kong Red Cross John F. Kennedy Centre, was impressed by the students' work. He remarked that the applications have the potential to benefit students with disabilities. Prof. Henry Chan, Associate Head (Partnership & Collaboration) of Department of Computing and Project Initiator of the Competition, highlighted the importance of student learning from diverse perspectives. He encouraged them to view the competition as a platform to apply their learning in service to the community. The judging criteria focused on application features, usability, innovation, and presentation.
