COMP 45th Anniversary Distinguished Lecture Series

30 Sep 2019

COMP launched the Distinguished Lecture Series in celebration of its 45th anniversary and the final lecture “High Performance Computing and Big Data: Challenges for the Future” by Prof. Jack Dongarra, Distinguished Professor from The University of Tennessee, USA, was concluded smoothly on 30 September at PolyU with a full house participation.

Prof. Dongarra is a Fellow of the AAAS, ACM, IEEE, and SIAM and a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a foreign member of the British Royal Society, and a member of the US National Academy of Engineering.

Historically, high performance computing advances have been largely dependent on concurrent advances in algorithms, software, architecture, and hardware that enable higher levels of floating-point performance for computational models. In this lecture, Prof. Dongarra examined some of the challenges involved with high performance computing and big data for scientific computing. Attendees had a fruitful sharing with Prof. Dongarra and were inspired by his vision on the future of high performance computing.

Throughout 2019, we invited renowned scholars and researchers to deliver Distinguished Lectures on a wide range of hot IT topics, including AI, Big Data, Social Media, Machine Learning and Cloud Computing.
