The University received generous support of HK$47.95 million from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and launched on 27 October the five-year Jockey Club Smart Ageing Hub project. Operated by PolyU’s Department of Biomedical Engineering, the project will develop and promote gerontechnology products and services so that the elderly can enjoy “Smart Ageć»Smart Life” with their quality of life improved.
The project will also serve as a platform for academics, healthcare professionals, elderly care service providers and technology developers to collaborate and exchange on designing products that best suit the elderly. In addition, participating in the Service-Learning programmes under this project, PolyU students will have the opportunity to understand the needs of elders and test innovative ideas for elderly care.
In relation, a “Day Experience Centre” was set up on campus to showcase gerontechnology products. The Centre will be open to the public for exploration activities, workshops and guided tours to facilitate the public’s understanding of gerontechnology products and devices. Details>>
