Research Student Gathering for 2018/19

The Department organized a Research Student Gathering for 2018/19 on 6th June 2019 (Thursday), in which it serves as a platform for all research students who are in different research disciplines to meet and share on their studies at PolyU.  In this half-day activity, 9 PhD students were invited to give a 15-minute presentation on their research topics while another 13 PhD/MPhil students were selected to join the poster session.  Professor Vladimiro Miranda (External Advisor of EE Departmental Review, Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, Portugal), Department Head, DRC Chair and academic staff joined the event and shared valuable comments and ideas with participants to enhance their presentation skills.

Graduation Tea Reception 2019

Congratulations to the students graduating from the Department of Electrical Engineering in 2019 and we wish you all every success in your future endeavours.   In the tea reception, it is our great honour to have invited our donors to present the award and scholarships in Best Final Year Project Award in “Electric Vehicle Technologies” and Dolphin Concepts Limited Final Year Project Scholarship.  The Outstanding Final Year Project Awards were presented to graduating students who have excellent performance in the Final Year Project.   Also, our greatest appreciation to our student helpers and student representatives for their support to the Department throughout the

Staff Retreat

This retreat focuses on teaching and learning, held in Hotel ICON on 10 May 2019.  Staff members were first updated by Head of Department about the upcoming Departmental Review, DSE Interviews' new arrangement, space audit, and some admission statistics of the new cohort.  With the discontinuation of Broad Discipline, Dr Lo has worked out curriculum improvement and shared with staff members' comments.  In the meantime, TSE programme's curriculum will also be slightly reformed.  More sharing on the performance of large group projects, the arrangement on the Industrial projects, review on FYP, MSc Dissertation, Internship etc., were also given.  A thorough deliberation and fruitful discussion is observed and thank to staff members' active participation.

Singapore AUV Challenge 2019

Our department sent 7 students to join in the Challenge, organized by IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society, Singapore. Among 40 contributions teams from all over the world, our team entered the final round with other 15 teams. The team was ranked 7th in the final challenge. In the Challenge, students utilized their knowledge in computer vision, automated control, and system integration to send an autonomous underwater vehicle to the arena to complete different tasks.
