1. Technology Beyond Borders: Service-Learning across Cultural, Ethnic and Community Lines (COMP2S01 / COMP2S01S)
With the goal of raising students’ awareness of information/digital divide, students who enrol will
- have the chance to travel to and deliver service in locations such as Mainland China, South Africa, Tanzania, Vietnam, and the Philippines,
- meet and interact with the local communities and learn about other cultures,
- transfer their skills to local youths and children,
- grasp the theories and practices around latest digital trends such as AI, object recognition, and machine learning,
- acquire the skills to design and build AI object recognition devices, and
- work in teams to apply what they have learned to bring about positive initiatives to help the disadvantaged communities, e.g., the visually impaired.
Target students: This is a GUR subject and is open for all
Pre-requisites: Nil. We welcome students of all disciplines
Programme fee: Programme fee varies depending on locations and ranges from HK$2,000 to $5,000
Project schedule: Lectures and related activities will be conducted in Semester 1, and service projects will be completed during winter break
