Missing Link- Polyfoam Recycling Scheme (迷失的寶藏: 發泡膠回收行動)
There are countless reasons why we should look for ways to reduce waste being sent to the landfills as well as channels of effective recycling. The Polyfoam Recycling Scheme, initiated and operated by Hong Kong Association of Youth Development (Tsuen Wan District Branch), focuses on local polyfoam recycling and related education activities and it deserves our support.
The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) is actively building a community recycling network with Recycling Stations, Recycling Stores and Recycling Spots across the territory. They welcome and accept at least 8 common recyclables including paper, metals, plastics, glass bottles, regulated electrical equipment, small electrical appliances, fluorescent lamps and tubes, and rechargeable batteries, etc., which would be sorted and then delivered to the downstream recyclers for subsequent processing.
Across Hong Kong, residents and volunteers in towns and neighborhoods are stepping up recycling efforts. Local initiative “Waste-no-mall” is one that offers great recycling choice and let users see what happens to their recycled waste. We can check and locate a recycling spot nearby and pull our efforts to support.
The way people currently design, produce and consume plastics is both unsustainable and inefficient. Let’s revisit why and how the plastics become the biggest pollutants in our water sources through reading this website by The Green Earth and reflect on our relationship with plastics. (in Chinese)
