Summary

With the arrival of cyber-physical systems or the Internet of Things era, the massive human- and machine-generated data have created unprecedented challenges and at the same time unmatched opportunities in advancing the theory, methods, tools and practice of data analytics for manufacturing. In this talk, I will first introduce the concept and scope of Manufacturing Informatics and its rising interest in different communities in the past few years. I will then describe some of my recent research efforts on researching and deploying advanced data analytics for smart manufacturing. I shall close my talk by highlighting some interesting and critical future research issues, especially on the way forward for smart manufacturing.
