Prof. Chung Tsz Ling Susana is currently a Professor of Optometry and Vision Science at the School of Optometry of University of California, Berkeley. She graduated from the Professional Diploma in Optometry with Distinction at the then Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1987. Prof. Chung started her academic career as a Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant at the University of Houston in 1991 and served as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Optometry and Radiography of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (January 1997 – September 1997) and Assistant Professor of Optometry, Indiana University (October 1997 – June 2002), and progressed to an Associate Professor of Optometry at the University of Houston (July 2002 – June 2008) and Associate Professor of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of California, Berkeley (July 2008 – June 2014).
With over three decades of experience in the Optometry profession, Prof. Chung has made paramount contributions to advancing low vision and vision research. Prof. Chung’s international reputation in the field is evidenced by the numerous honours and awards bestowed by the authorities in Hong Kong, Australia and USA. Prof. Chung is very passionate about serving her alma mater and professional community. Prof. Chung always initiated discussion on the strategic direction of vision rehabilitation research with SO faculty members, shared her exciting research findings and her collaborative projects during conferences and connected SO faculty members with experts of other disciplines ranging from psychology to computer science for interdisciplinary and impactful research. Her passion for nurturing the next generation is well manifested by her training of PolyU-grown Optometrists at the Hospital Authority. Her dedication to serve the profession is exemplified by her appointments such as an Associate Editor and an Editorial Board Member in leading journals as well as a grant reviewer in funding agencies.
