Theme

My “BM” story: Students are invited to share their learning experience, campus life and extracurricular activities they have experienced during their study of the Master of Science in Business Management (MSc BM) programme.

 

Eligibility

  • Current MSc BM students and MSc BM alumni. MSc BM alumni are required to form a team with at least one current MSc BM student. (i.e. Each team must include at least one current MSc BM student.)

  • A team can have a maximum of 4 members.

  • Individual student / alumnus can only join one team.

Contestants working in teams or on their own will be collectively referred to as “Contestant”.

 

The Video

Each Contestant will submit 1 video entry of a maximum duration of 3 minutes. The video entry will be uploaded onto the Faculty of Business’s (FB) social media channels.

Timeline

  1. Video entries submission deadline: 22 February 2024
  2. Announcement of shortlisted entries: 22 April 2024

  3. Voting cut-off day: 6 May 2024

  4. Award Presentation Ceremony: 8 May 2024

 

Requirements

  1. The video entry will address the theme of the Competition. Examples of contents are: personal learning experiences, memorable moments in the programme, interesting observations, etc.

  2. Format of works: reels, short videos, animation, etc. The video should be less than 3 minutes.

  3. The video entry will be in one or more of the following languages: Cantonese, Putonghua and English. Videos with subtitles in English plus Traditional or Simplified Chinese are required.

  4. The Contestant will carry out post-production after shooting, including subtitles, background music and sound effects, graphics, captions, visual effects, animation, voice-over, etc.

  5. The Contestant will need to submit the video entry in mp4 format and 16:9 aspect ratio to PolyU/FB upon request. The Contestant will also grant his/her consent to PolyU/FB to post the video entry on social media or other PolyU/FB designated channels.

  6. Any royalty and license issues that may arise from the videos for online and offline usages should be cleared before submitting the video entry.

  7. The video entry should not contain any content that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene, hateful, defamatory or slanderous. It should not promote bigotry, racism, hatred, or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, sex, religion, disability or sexual orientation.

  8. The video entry will comply with the YouTube / Little Red Book / Facebook / Instagram / Bilibili Terms of Service.

 

Video Entry Submission

The Contestant will send the video file in mp4 format to FB (fb.marketing@polyu.edu.hk) via OneDrive / Google Drive by the deadline. The email will need to contain the following information:

  • Name(s) of Contestant(s)

  • Whether the Contestants are current students or alumni. If the Contestants are MSc BM alumni, please indicate the year(s) of graduation.

  • Contacts of Contestants

  • A brief illustration of a maximum of 100 words that explains the creative concept of the video entry.

FB will upload shortlisted videos to the Faculty’s social media channels: YouTube, Little Red Book, Facebook, Instagram and Bilibili for voting.

 

Criteria

All video entries will be evaluated in a 2-stage process:

Stage 1: The selection panel will shortlist as many videos as possible as long as the videos are relevant to the theme and do not violate the requirements/terms and conditions.

Stage 2: The Faculty will evaluate the video by the following criteria:

  • Is the video creative and interesting?

  • The video is presented in an original way.

  • The video must be the Contestant’s own works.

  • Does the video run within the 3-minute time limit?

  • Does the video have subtitles? Videos with subtitles in English plus Traditional or Simplified Chinese will score more points.

  • How well is the video in terms of sound quality, editing camera operations, etc?

  • All shortlisted videos will be posted on designated FB Social Media Channels.

  • The number of the “Likes” received for each post video on social media channels will be counted.

  • The final score will be based on the accumulated number of “Likes” (i.e. 赞 on Bilibili; 喜歡/like on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook) on social media platform(s) and scores given by the Selection Panel, (i.e. Number of Likes x 50% + Evaluation Criteria x 50% = Final Score). Other forms of interaction, e.g. repost, share, comments, coins, etc. will not be counted.

  • The highest scored video entry will be winner of the Competition. The videos with the second and third highest scores will be the second and third runner-up, respectively.

Distinction Award HKD 2,000 and a certificate of MSc BM Programme Promotion Helper
Merit Award HKD 500 and a certificate of MSc BM Programme Promotion Helper
The rest of the Contestants will receive a souvenir

 

Terms and Conditions

  • Contestant shall not submit more than one entry, whether individually or in a team.

  • Contestants agree to be bound by the competition rules and decisions of the PolyU/FB judges. The judges’ decision is final.

  • The Contestant shall warrant that the video does not infringe upon the patent or copyright of any third party. In the case of any claim or action brought against the PolyU/FB, its employees or agents alleging infringement of any patent or copyright in respect of the video, the Contestant shall indemnify and hold the PolyU/FB, its employees and agents harmless against all costs and damages arising out of such alleged infringement and undertake to defend or settle such claim or action at the expense of the Contestant.

  • The Contestant shall be responsible for complying with the enactments, orders, regulations or other instruments issued by the Government of Hong Kong or other competent authority in Hong Kong. The Contestant shall indemnify PolyU/FB against any penalty, loss or cost arising as a result of the Contestants failure to comply with any of the said enactments, orders, regulations, or other instruments.

  • If any dispute arises between the PolyU/FB and the Contestant in reference to the implementation of this Competition, or any part thereof, PolyU/FB or Contestant may forthwith give to the other party written notice requiring the matter to be referred to a single arbitrator, in accordance with the procedures governed by the Arbitration Ordinance, whose decision shall be final, and binding on the parties. The costs of such reference shall be in the discretion of the arbitrator.

  • The Competition shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Hong Kong.

  • The Contestant must ensure that the submitted video has been created ethically and they make related declarations in the submission.

  • The Contestant is not allowed to amend the video after the submission.

  • Contestant is not allowed to pay third party(ies) or provide him/her/them with incentives to increase a video’s views, likes, or dislikes, or to increase a channel’s subscribers, or otherwise manipulate metrics in any manner.
