Migrant Worker Lives Matter Talk Series: Care and Support Systems for Migrant Workers

Events

Following the successful Migrant Worker Lives Matter Symposium in May 2024, the Department of English and Communication (ENGL) hosted the “Migrant Worker Lives Matter” Talk Series to continue the dialogue on migrant worker issues. This platform brought together academics, NGOs, grassroots organisations, government agencies, and migrant worker communities to collaborate and exchange ideas aimed at improving the lives of migrant workers.

The panel session was held at PolyU and featured three distinguished speakers: Dr Jan Bernadas from De La Salle University, Prof. Lydia Catedral and Prof. Margo Turnbull, Assistant Professors from ENGL, moderated by ENGL Assistant Professor Jeffry Oktavianus. The panel provided valuable insights into care and support systems on both individual and organisational levels. Prof. Hans Ladegaard served as a discussant, stressing the importance of listening to and believing in migrant workers. This series marks a significant step towards fostering collaboration and advocating for meaningful systemic change.
