Workshop 1

Using Multilingual Assessment Instrument for Narratives (MAIN) to assess the narrative comprehension and production abilities of Cantonese-speaking children

Upon workshop completion, participants will be able to:

  1. Appreciate some current conceptual perspectives related to the acquisition of narratives, an important component when assessing school-aged children;
  2. Recognize the current status and knowledge gaps of our knowledge base on narrative abilities in children with and without Developmental Language Disorder;
  3. Analyze some narrative samples using the Cantonese version of the Multilingual Assessment Instrument for narratives (MAIN);
  4. Reflect on the application values of MAIN in clinical practice.

Assessing the pediatric voices from different perspectives: some latest development in the local contexts

A digital tool to assess Chinese character writing

  1. Understand a psycholinguistic theory of Chinese character writing;
  2. Assess the Chinese character writing abilities of individuals with writing problems;

  4. Interpret the results with reference to the psycholinguistic theory introduced.

Learn an effective way of Cantonese language sample analysis in 40 minutes
