I am grateful to be the recipient of the endowment support from the Kuok Group. This appointment will be critical towards building innovative research to uncover neural correlates of cognitive and mobility impairments, as well as developing novel methods to enhance brain health and functional capacity in older adults.

Appointee

Professor Hsu Chun Liang

Professor Hsu Chun Liang is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at PolyU. He holds a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of British Columbia.

With experience in clinical assessments related to mobility, neuropsychological batteries, and advanced neuroimaging analyses, Professor Hsu focuses on investigating the underlying neural correlates for the cognitive and mobility functions using functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques and randomised controlled trials. Specifically, he centres around examining functional neural networks associated with mobility and cognitive impairments in older adults, and explores the potential neural modulatory effects of different intervention strategies. Currently, his research revolves around examining the neural mechanisms of cognitive frailty, as well as understanding the neural underpinnings of reserve and resilience against negative effects of aging- or disease-related pathology.

Professor Hsu’s contributions to the field of aging research have been recognised through various accolades, which acknowledge his current work and future prospects as an independent researcher in aging research. He was appointed as the Kuok Group Young Scholar in Aging and Neuroimaging in 2024, following his conferment of the title of Presidential Young Scholar in 2022.
