Dean Kaye Chon delivered a speech on "Cruise Ports and Tourism and their Impact on the Local Economy: Asia/Oceania" at the 27th International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) World Ports Conference in Busan, Korea on 23-27 May 2011.
Professor Haiyan Song and Dr John Ap attended the Joint Symposium – 7th Biennial Symposium of Consumer Psychology of Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure, and the 2nd International Symposium on Sustainable Tourism Management held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on 24-27 May 2011. Professor Song presented a paper entitled "A Web-based Tourism Forecasting Support System for Hong Kong". Dr Ap presented three papers entitled "Sustaining Hospitality Academic Programmes – Stake-holders' Perspectives", "Perceived Barriers to Tourism as a Tool for Rural Poverty Alleviation in a World Heritage Listed Site: A Qualitative Inquiry" and "Villagers' Perceptions of Tourism Development in the Kaiping Diaolous (Watchtower Houses), China".
Mr Richard Hatter delivered a keynote address on "Technology and Education – How Can You Effectively Blend Them Together?" at the Hotel Technology Conference 2011 in Singapore on 1 June 2011.
Dean Kaye Chon, Professor Haiyan Song and Professor Cathy Hsu attended the 12th Biennial Conference of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism in Taipei and Chiayi, Taiwan on 5-11 June 2011. Dean Chon and Professor Hsu were each invited to chair one of the Academic Sessions. Professor Song presented a paper entitled "Comparing Mainland Chinese Tourist' Satisfaction with Hong Kong and the UK Using a Tourist Satisfaction Index".
Dr Wilco Chan attended the 7th International Forum on Chinese Outbound Tourism in Beijing, China on 15 June 2011. Dr Chan also attended the Beijing International Tourism Expo 2011 – 8th International Exhibition for Business and Leisure Tourism in Beijing, China on 17-19 June 2011.
A number of SHTM staff members including Dr Jinsoo Lee, Dr Steve Pan, Ms Loretta Pang, Dr Henry Tsai, Ms Nicole Wong and Dr Simon Wong attended the 17th Asia Pacific Tourism Association (APTA) 2011 Annual Conference in Seoul, South Korea on 3-6 July 2011. Dr Lee presented a paper entitled "Examining the Role of Multi-dimensional Value in Convention Attendee behavior". Dr Tsai presented a paper entitled "Optimizing room capacity in Guangdong: An Inventory Model Approach". Ms Pang, Ms Wong and Dr Wong co-presented a paper entitled "Blended Learning: Uncover the Perfect Learning Components from Students' Perspectives for a Tourism and Hotel Management Programme".
Professor Cathy Hsu presented a paper entitled "Brand Performance of Chinese Domestic vs International Hotel Brands" at the 2011 International Conference on Hospitality and Leisure Applied Research at the Institut Paul Bocuse and IAE Lyon, France on 7-8 July 2011.
