Hong Kong Partners Week strengthens international educational ties

In alignment with the Hong Kong Government’s vision to establish the city as an international education hub, eight publicly funded universities, including PolyU, collaborated to organise the Hong Kong Partners Week. This event aimed to promote the “Study in Hong Kong” initiative and strengthen relationships with academic institutions worldwide.
Held in December 2024, the Hong Kong Partners Week welcomed representatives from 58 overseas universities, marking a significant increase in participation from 38 the previous year. The event attracted institutions from countries including Australia, Austria, Canada, Czechia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The event featured industry leaders sharing insights on Hong Kong’s latest developments and the diverse career opportunities available for international students. Discussions also focused on the city’s growth in art and culture, offering participants a comprehensive view of Hong Kong’s dynamic landscape.
Delegates also explored Hong Kong’s rich cultural heritage through visits to iconic sites such as Tai Kwun in Central, the Hong Kong Palace Museum, and the West Kowloon Cultural District. These excursions provided a deeper understanding of the city’s historical and cultural aspects.
Professor James Tang, Secretary-General of the University Grants Committee, welcomed the international delegates, emphasising Hong Kong’s world-class research facilities and unique opportunities that make it an appealing destination for international students.
PolyU has been proactive in promoting internationalisation through initiatives such as providing overseas learning opportunities for local students and hosting international students to enhance campus diversity. The University also organises events such as the International Summer School and International Cultural Festival, and establishes partnerships with universities worldwide. As of 2023/24, PolyU had established partnerships with over 275 academic institutions in 40 countries and regions. More than 440 academic collaboration agreements, including student exchanges and joint research projects, have been signed.
By fostering strong ties with overseas university partners, Hong Kong’s universities continue to advance higher education in the city, contributing to the city’s development as an international higher education hub.
