New spaces, new vibes: Opening of University Gallery and U GARDEN
At the new year begins, PolyU is infusing fresh energy into the campus with the introduction of two vibrant spots—the University Gallery and U GARDEN, enhancing engagement and connection among the PolyU community.
University Gallery: Celebrating PolyU’s progressive journey
“The exhibits in the University Gallery evoke wonderful memories for alumni and provide visitors with an opportunity to delve deeper into PolyU’s development over the decades, and its significant achievements in teaching, research and knowledge transfer,” remarked Professor Jin-Guang Teng, PolyU President, during the opening ceremony on 1 January 2025.
The ceremony was graced by several distinguished guests, including Council Chairman Dr Lam Tai-fai, Deputy Council Chairman Dr Daniel Yip Chung-yin, Court Chairman Dr Katherine Ngan, Treasurer Mr Arthur Lee, Honorary Court Chairman Dr Roy Chung Chi-ping, President Emeritus Professor the Honourable Poon Chung-kwong, President Professor Jin-Guang Teng, Deputy President and Provost Professor Wing-tak Wong, and Executive Vice President Professor Miranda Lou.

The University Gallery chronicles PolyU's evolution from its early days in technical education to becoming an innovative world-class university ranked among the global top 100, reflecting its growth alongside the social and economic progress of society. It stands as a testament to PolyU’s dedication to educational and research excellence, impactful innovation and knowledge transfer. Through various exhibition zones, the gallery honours outstanding scholars, distinguished alumni, and numerous contributors, highlighting PolyU’s positive impact to Hong Kong, the Nation, and the world.
Additionally, the University Gallery’s unique design combines sustainable materials with a modern take on traditional red brick, symbolising PolyU’s contribution to Hong Kong's industrial history and its ongoing commitment to future innovation.
The hollow cement blocks in the Gallery front wall are made of sustainable cement developed by Ir Prof. C.S. Poon, PolyU Chair Professor of Sustainable Construction Materials, Head of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, which helps reduce carbon emissions.

U GARDEN: A new hub for dining, gatherings and recreation
With over 700 seating spaces, U GARDEN serves as a vibrant new hub for dining, collaboration and recreational experience.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held during the soft opening of U GARDEN.
In a bid to provide a good campus environment for students and staff, PolyU has transformed some podium areas into a uniquely designed restaurant – U GARDEN. This 700-seat restaurant features a design rich in arches and curves, emphasising greenery, with large windows offering natural light and views of University Square. U GARDEN also serves as a testbed for PolyU research, utilising scholars' findings to promote sustainability on campus.
Beyond providing an enhanced dining experience, U GARDEN serves as a multifunctional space that fosters collaboration and connection. To enrich the campus ambience while strengthening the sense of belonging, the University hosted the Year-End Party for students and staff while celebrating the soft opening of U GARDEN. Thousands gathered to enjoy delicious cuisine, live performances, and talent shows, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere that resonated throughout the University.
