2023 年度理大眼科視光學院青年傑出校友學術成就獎

Dr Ho Kam-chun
Lecturer, University of Canberra
- BSc. (Hons) in Optometry, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2008)

Dr Ho is a Lecturer at the University of Canberra in Australia. He graduated from the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Optometry at PolyU in 2008. He then obtained his Master of Optometry and Doctor of Philosophy at The University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 2014 and 2019, respectively. Dr Ho commenced his academic career as a Research Fellow at The George Institute for Global Health from October 2018 to December 2019, later working as an Honorary Fellow at the same institute from February 2020 to February 2021. He joined the Singapore Eye Research Institute as a Research Fellow from January 2020 to January 2022, before taking up his current appointment as a Lecturer at the University of Canberra in mid-January 2022.

Dr Ho has demonstrated himself as a rising star in the fields of evidence-based healthcare delivery, patient-centred outcomes, public health, and vision and ageing research with strong track record. He has published 18 peer-reviewed papers in top international journals in the past three years, which attests to his ability to generate research output. His H-index of 6 with 104 citations (Google Scholar; as of 16 November 2022 when the Panel of Judges met to discuss the awardees at departmental level) are impressive figures for an early career researcher. In addition, Dr Ho has delivered 24 conference presentations since 2016. With his wealth of experience in evidence-based care delivery and health economics, Dr Ho has succeeded in playing a leading role in managing various government-funded projects focusing on evidence-based healthcare delivery, health economics, and patient-centred outcomes during his postdoctoral training in Australia and Singapore.

Dr Ho is dedicated to improving the quality of eye care, as is evidenced by his successful large-scale iCareTrack project involving major stakeholders of the eye care community, including optometrists, ophthalmologists, eye care providers, and academics. In addition, through this project, Dr Ho has inspired two UNSW PhD students to further expand the iCareTrack project for the benefit of the needy in the population.

Dr Ho’s extensive research experience is widely recognized. He was nominated as an ‘Exceptional Reviewer’ by the journal Translation Vision Science & Technology (TVST). This is an assessment given to only a few of the most thoughtful, expert, and helpful reviewers serving the journal in 2021. He was also invited by Medscape Medical News to provide scientific insight into a research study at the prestigious Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Annual Meeting in 2021.
