Clinical Trial Unit for Vision
Primary Eye Care
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations for the early detection and treatment of vision problems.
- Provide prescriptions for eyeglasses and contact lenses to correct refractive errors like myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia.
- Offer vision rehabilitation and the prescription of low vision aids for patients with vision impairment.
Myopia Management
- Regulate reliable and safe clinical trials that test new interventions with scientific evidence for myopia, including new types of spectacles, contact lenses, and eye drops.
- Integrate clinical, genomic, and proteomic research into the design and implementation of interventions aiming to slow the progression of myopia at the population level.
- Advocate for the translation of the myopia model of care into health policies and practices globally.
Children Vision
- Examine visual function development in children, including such aspects as visual acuity, stereopsis, and reading/writing skills.
- Emphasize paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus studies, including amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (crossed eyes), and various refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism), for improvement in vision rehabilitation.
- Educate the public about preventive measures for short-sightedness among children and raise public awareness of myopia care.
Diagnostic Biomarkers
- Analyze tear fluid for the presence of prognostic biomarkers of eye diseases, including dry eyes, inflammation, glaucoma and systemic diseases.
- Develop and apply precision medicine in next-generation omics technology to assist clinical diagnosis and evaluate treatment outcomes.
Vision Therapy
- Govern delivery and improvement of symptomatic treatment by assessing outcomes of patients with cataract and macular degeneration.
- Identify risk factors in the current practices to ensure the safety of diagnostic procedures in clinical trials.
- Explore ergonomics and its applications in gerontechnology for better care of the elderly.
