The Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering (BEEE) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is proud to announce the remarkable achievements of Professor Wei Minchen Tommy, Professor of BEEE and Director of the Colour Imaging and Metaverse Research Centre at PolyU. Prof. Wei and his research team have successfully developed a series of groundbreaking colour management technologies that significantly enhance the accuracy and reproduction of colours in digital displays and imaging devices.
Prof. Wei's pioneering research addresses the challenges posed by emerging technologies such as OLED and Quantum-dot LED (QLED), which have narrower spectral compositions, making it difficult for cameras and displays to capture and reproduce consistent colour appearance. To further advance the application of their research outcomes, Prof. Wei co-founded Guardian Glow Limited, a startup focusing on personalised AI smart devices and XR headset technologies. The company has attracted support from venture capital funds and private investors to continue developing user experience-enhancing colour management technologies.
