Call for Abstracts

Conference Themes and Sub-themes

 

We cordially invite abstracts on topics related to English Across the Curriculum (EAC), Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC), and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) within the following thematic areas:

a. Roles of EAC, WAC, and CLIL in learning and teaching

b. Opportunities and challenges in implementing EAC, WAC, and CLIL

c. Innovative pedagogical and assessment practices in EAC, WAC, and CLIL

d. Designing EAC, WAC, and CLIL programs and fostering collaboration

e. Integrating technology for language learning in EAC, WAC, and CLIL

f. Examining the impact of these approaches

We welcome all submissions that explore these themes and sub-themes.

 

Presentation Formats:

The 2024 EAC Conference strongly encourages presenters to deliver their presentations and colloquia synchronously in real time. At least one presenter for each presentation/colloquium/workshop must be physically present at the conference in Hong Kong.

A presentation of an ongoing or completed pedagogical / theoretical research on up-to-date approaches in EAC/WAC/CLIL learning and teaching
Colloquium Max. 6 presenters; 40 minutes & 15 minutes Q & A A series of short presentations on a specific topic in EAC/WAC/CLIL learning and teaching with active discussion with the audience
Poster presentation Print; Size: A0 (Width: 841mm x Height: 1189mm)
The poster should include the major sections of your project on EAC/WAC/CLIL learning and teaching: Summary, introduction, methods, discussions and conclusion
Interactive workshop
Max. 4 facilitators; 40 minutes & 15 minutes Q & A
A workshop led by expert facilitators to explore and demonstrate innovative teaching strategies and interdisciplinary approaches for implementing EAC/WAC/CLIL

 

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Each abstract should include the following:

a. Title (max: 15 words)

b. Summary (max: 50 words)

c. Abstract (max: 200 words)

d. Biography for each presenter (max: 50 words)

e. Citation style: APA (7th edition)

Please submit the abstract online. 

Abstract Submission

You will then be taken to a submission process that starts with setting up a conference account.

For submissions involving multiple authors, the first author should be the one to do the submission.

Each presenter can appear on a maximum of two abstracts (whether paper presentation, colloquium, poster presentation or interaction workshop) and only once as the first author.

Authors should ensure that the same abstract has never been presented at another conference.

At least one presenter for each presentation/submission must be physically present at the conference in Hong Kong.

Selection Process

All submissions will undergo a double blind review and the first author of accepted submissions will be informed by 15 October 2024.

The EAC Conference Organising Committee reserves the right to edit submitted abstracts.

 

Review Guidelines

The following evaluation criteria will be applied:

1. Relevance:
The content of the proposal aligns with the main theme and sub-theme(s) of the conference.

2. Strength of research:
The proposal demonstrates the use of robust research methods in investigating the relevant issue(s).
It exhibits a clear grounding in the relevant literature and applies appropriate analysis.

3. Potential interest to conference participants:
The proposal presents originality and contributes to scholarship, theoretical understanding, or current developments in the field of EAC/WAC/CLIL. It is expected to engage and stimulate the interest of conference participants.

4. Clarity:
The abstract is presented clearly and effectively in appropriate language and style.

 

Key Dates

Abstract submission deadline  24 September 2024 
Notification of acceptance by 15 October 2024
Registration deadline for presenters 31 October 2024

Contributors of accepted submissions should register by 31 October 2024 to prevent their abstracts being removed from the programme.
