Professor Kam-shing Yip has over 18 years of teaching experience at the PolyU, teaching a variety of subjects in the areas of mental health and social work from certificate to doctorial levels. He receives extremely positive student feedback for teaching mental health-related subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The elective subject of “Social Work in Mental Health”, which he has taught for over 10 years, is one of the most popular ones amongst the subjects offered in the department.

Professor Yip strives to relate theory to practice by providing ample examples and case studies generated from his rich practical experience. He is committed to his students and is always willing to give them extra time and personal attention. He even provides professional support to graduates by running a support group for them in order to ensure that quality services are rendered to clients. Professor Yip is currently in charge of the "educational ethos" group which helps facilitate intellectual debates and academic development in the department.

Professor Yip believes that good teaching also means excelling in the subject area one teaches. He himself is a renowned scholar and active researcher in his field of study, having published over 80 articles in prestigious international refereed journals, 40 articles in local refereed journals, 30 book chapters, two books in Chinese and four in English, and presented 45 papers at international conferences. He also serves as reviewer/editor of 23 international and five local journals in social work, mental health and psychiatry.
