Leader in the Advancement of STEM Education
During his eight years of teaching at PolyU, Dr. Ting has demonstrated a strong commitment to Mathematics and STEM education, and is credited with numerous outstanding achievements that positively support PolyU’s mission of nurturing and developing students who are able to serve and lead society. His major accomplishments include: 1) more than ten cutting-edge mobile apps and new pedagogies, which are grounded in extensive research in active learning, and developed specifically to engage students working within STEM-related subjects; 2) the establishment of an inter-institutional network with 30 STEM frontline teachers and educators across four universities to implement these new pedagogies and evaluate their outcomes for improvement; and 3) outstanding leadership across nine funded teams in enhancing the quality and outcomes of STEM education at the tertiary level.
The influence of the teaching and learning tools and apps developed by Dr. Ting and his project team is not only local and regional but also international. More than 6,000 local and overseas teachers from 700 different schools in over 70 countries have used one or more of these tools, mobile apps and pedagogies for facilitating active learning, with a significant uptick of online adoption and usage since the onset of the global pandemic. These innovations have benefited tens of thousands of students across different education sectors.
Dr. Ting has received numerous international awards for his significant contributions in the development and promotion of active learning mobile pedagogies, the enhancement of innovative teaching and learning practices and approaches in STEM education.
