Residential Camp (5 days, 4 nights)
The residential camp, running from 21 to 25 July 2025 (Monday to Friday), is the key component of the PolyU Summer Institute, delivering an immersive experience for secondary school students. During the five days, participants get to experience university life first-hand through a series of activities led by PolyU’s academic and student mentors, exploring subject and career choices.
During the camp, students will get a chance to experience:
- Residential hall life – Stay in our Student Halls of Residence (Hung Hom) (twin-sharing with participants of the same gender) and experience hall life led by our student mentors.
- Day-long attachment programmes - Attach to two of PolyU’s Faculties/ Schools to gain first-hand insights for making informed choices for future studies. You may check out the details here
- Signature mini-lectures – Understand PolyU’s focus on Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (AIDA), and Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IE) and attend lectures “AI Fundamentals and Applications” and “Entrepreneurial Mindset – The Key to Staying Competitive Amidst AI and Rapid Change”. - Company visits – Have a taste of PolyU’s strong industrial connections by visiting different companies, and learning more about the career prospects of different programmes.
- Meet new friends – Meet friends from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and overseas, and experience the university’s diversity.
On top of that, try out campus food outlets (all meals are included) and participants will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the camp.
Credit-Bearing Course (5 days)
Participants can opt to attend a one-week credit-bearing course (40 quota) as part of the PolyU Summer Institute to test their academic abilities in a university setting. The course will run from 28 July to 1 August 2025 (Monday to Friday), offering participants hands-on visits and an understanding of the latest industrial trends. Additionally, they will gain first-hand insights into university-level expectations and resources, perfect for participants transitioning from secondary to tertiary education.
Course Title: Introduction to Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IE) (1 Credit)
Objectives: This course introduces students to the key elements of innovation and entrepreneurship in a digital world. It aims to equip students with an entrepreneurial mindset and help them apply innovative strategies to devise creative solutions that benefit both organizations and society during this era of digital transformation.
Assessment: In-class quizzes, assignments, and attendance will all be considered when determining final grades. Upon completion of the credit-bearing course, students will receive a transcript of their studies. Additionally, a certificate of attendance will be awarded to students who complete the course with over 75% attendance.
Upon successful completion, participants will get one credit, which is transferrable upon admission to PolyU. Hall residency (no meals) will be included for non-local participants only during the credit-bearing course.

Applicants should be studying secondary 4 & 5/ Grade 10 & 11/ Year 11 & 12 students (or equivalent) in the academic year 2024-25.

- Non-local students attending the residential camp need not apply for student visa. Assistance will be offered for nationalities requiring special visa to enter Hong Kong.
- Only non-local students who enrol in the credit-bearing course and do not hold a Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card (i.e. do not have the right of abode in Hong Kong) are required to apply for a student visa before coming to study in Hong Kong.
- Application procedures and guidelines will be specified in the ‘Notice of Offer’ if your application is successful.
- The student visa application fee is included in the programme fees.
Definition of Non-local Student - A "non-local student" is defined as one who requires a student visa to study in Hong Kong. Non-local applicants who possess only a visitor or a tourist visa can neither be registered as students nor commence their studies until they have obtained student visas.
- For dependant visa/ entry permit holders who were 18 years old or above when they were issued with such visa/ entry permit by the Director of Immigration, they will be regarded as non-local applicants and should follow the application/admissions arrangements for non-local students.

3 Financial assistance will be offered to local students who have financial needs to participate in the credit-bearing course and are currently receiving one (or both) of the following financial support from the HKSAR government:
(a) Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) Scheme; and/ or
(b) Full grant from the Textbook Assistance Scheme (TA) for secondary school students.

Participants in the credit-bearing course may be eligible for our Principal’s Nomination Scholarship, with the following criteria:
- Students ranked amongst the top 20% of their peers in the same level with their Principal’s nomination can apply for the Principal’s Nomination Sponsorship (HK$1,000 in cash for local students and HK$2,000 in cash for non-local students). Selection will be made by the subject lecturer.
- The nominated students will be granted the sponsorship upon successful completion of the course and meeting the course requirements as mentioned above.
- A certificate of participation (with a sponsorship) will be issued.
- For application, please download the “Principal’s Nomination Form” here, seek your Principal’s approval, and upload it as supporting documents when submitting your online application.
An applicant should submit a complete online application and all required documents before the application deadline, please prepare the following documents before you start the online application process:

Credit-bearing Course + Residential Camp

- (Strongly recommended) A personal statement written in English. Your personal statement may include:
- A brief self-introduction;
- Reason for being interested in the course; and
- Your expectations of the PolyU Summer Institute
- Applicants who wish to be considered for the Principal Nomination Sponsorship are required to submit a scanned copy of the completed Principal’s nomination form

Selection and admission result
- Applications will be holistically reviewed on a rolling basis.
- Application without sufficient supporting document(s) may not be processed and may cause delays.
- PolyU makes admission offers from late March until all places are filled.
- Priority will be given to Secondary 5, or equivalent, students.
