Initiated by PolyU in 1995, renowned universities with proven records in technology transfer were invited to form an “International Strategic Technology Alliance”.
The alliance now has 26 institutional members from the Chinese mainland, the U.K. and the U.S. and they are committed to promoting applied research and consultancy services on an international scale that benefit both the institutions and the society at large. Joint research centres and laboratories have been formed among the ISTA member universities to strengthen the research capabilities on specific technological areas.
Inaugurated in 2015, UASR comprises about 151 leading universities from 38 countries / regions for “Silk Road Collaboration”.
It aims to create an educational cooperation platform, supporting and steering exchanges and collaborations in education, science and technology, and cultural exchanges between member universities.
The University Social Responsibility Network (USRN) was established in 2015 by PolyU on the belief that universities have an obligation to work together to find solutions to address the economic, social and environmental challenges facing the world today, making the world more just, inclusive, peaceful and sustainable. The USRN brings together a group of universities from across the world committed to USR to exchange ideas, resources and practices and to collaborate on impactful projects in an endeavour to promote and elevate the global movement of USR in higher education. The USRN currently has 16 renowned member universities worldwide.
Networks PolyU has joined as a member
ANSO was established in 2018 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences with the support of 36 other national academies, research institutions, universities and international organisations from around the world. It is a comprehensive international science and technology organisation, established under the Belt and Road Initiative, that supports the achievement of sustainable social, economic and environmental development.
ACNET-EngTech was established in 2014 with 26 members from China and ASEAN countries. The Alliance aims to establish a network of higher learning in the area of engineering and technology for China-ASEAN countries in order to contribute to socio-economic development, to promote China-ASEAN cultural and educational exchanges and cooperation, and to cultivate talents in the area of engineering and technology for China-ASEAN countries by integrating the complementary advantages of its members.
ASRTU is a non-governmental organization composed by elite engineering universities from China and Russia on a voluntary basis (29 Chinese and 34 Russian universities in total).
The association aims to promote Sino-Russian talents exchanges, foster scientific cooperation, and accelerate the development of innovative economy.
Founded in 2000, it is the largest sovereign university network of its kind within Europe. EPU is strongly supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Research and the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research.
Its objective is to promote multilateral scientific partnerships between Austrian universities, universities of applied sciences, other research institutions and member institutions in East Asia, Central Asia, South Asia and the Pacific region. It supports interdisciplinary scientific exchange between its member institutions through scholarships for Post Docs and Ph.D. students coming to Austria, projects and summer schools.
Founded in 1989 as the European leadership centre for expertise, networking and resources in the internationalisation of higher education, serving individuals actively involved in the internationalisation of their institutions through a combination of training, conferences and knowledge acquisition and sharing.
It has a total of over 2,500 individual members from over 80 countries. Every year, PolyU will participate in the annual EAIE conference to meet with existing partners to deepen the collaborations and potential institutions to explore opportunities.
Ge4 is an international independent non-profit network of universities established in 1996 for the purpose of connecting global industry and academic institutions. We have been offering competent service and rich experience to higher education institutions and industry by implementing academic mobility of engineers and managers worldwide ever since. The main focus of our activities is student exchanges at all levels, from BSc to PhD, as well as researcher and staff exchanges.
Since our foundation, over 1300 students have taken part in the Ge4 network exchange programs worldwide. We are trying to make a contribution to a mutual understanding between diverse cultures and to stimulate educational and personal development of young academics in an open and friendly environment. Global Engineering Education Exchange (Global E3) is an exchange program for engineering students: a student can study abroad while continuing to pay tuition at home. Over 70 universities worldwide comprise the Global E3 consortium. This consortium is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in New York, under the guidance of the member-elected Executive Committee. Global E3 exchanges about 250-300 students a year.
IIE implements many of the world’s most prestigious scholarship programs including the Global Engineering Education Exchange (Global E3) which was established by a group of leading universities around the world in 1995. Global E3 is a pioneering consortium that enables undergraduate engineering students to take part in exchanges among 70 participating universities in 20 countries.
Founded in 1948 as the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers. The association's scope soon expanded and it is now the world's largest non-profit association dedicated to international education and exchange. It has 10,000 members from more than 3,500 institutions in over 150 countries.
NAFSA aims to advance international education and access to education worldwide by managing scholarships, training, exchange and leadership programmes, conducting research and facilitating policy dialogue on global higher education. Every year, PolyU will participate in the annual NAFSA conference to meet with existing partners to deepen the collaborations and potential institutions to explore opportunities.
Founded in 1956 as a non-governmental organisation in Bangkok, Thailand, of the heads of eight state universities in Southeast Asia. It has more than 170 member institutions in 15 Asian countries, Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, New Zealand, Sweden and USA.
ASAIHL aims to assist member institutions to achieve international distinction in teaching, research and public service. Every year, PolyU will encourage academics to participate in the annual ASAIHL Conference.
Initiated by the China Association of Higher Education and Pakistan Higher Education Commission, the CPEC Consortium was established in 2017 with 58 members from the leading universities from China and Pakistan. The Consortium vows to enhance cooperation in the fields of business studies, science and technology for the benefit of the societies of China and Pakistan.
Invited to be one of the founding members, PolyU leverages on its expertise in infrastructure, maritime logistics and tourism and helps promoting applied research collaboration and professional training to benefit countries surrounding the CPEC.
Inaugurated in 2005, the Talloires Network is an international association of institutions committed to strengthening the civic roles and social responsibilities of higher education. The Network works together to implement the recommendations of the Talloires Declaration and build a global movement of engaged universities.
The Network is guided by an elected Steering Committee of 15 members. 10 are current or former heads of higher education institutions, 3 are heads of national or regional higher education networks for university civic engagement, and 2 are student representatives. Since its founding conference, the Network has grown to over 360 members in 77 countries with a combined enrollment of over 6 million students.
UCMSR comprises more than 60 universities from 17 countries/regions. Established in October 2018, the Consortium aims to develop a platform for international cooperation and exchange in higher education among Belt & Road countries. It facilitates exchange and cooperation amongst universities in areas such as talents cultivation, scientific researches and social services.
