Abstract

This Distinguished Seminar begins with cultivating scientific spirit and understanding engineering philosophy, the contribution of science discovery, technology revolution and industry revolution to human civilization. It will cover the infinitive possibilities in the world of science, the way of success and the characteristics of innovative talents, as well as the new paradigm of research and development by AI for science. Then discuss the key issues and challenges of the energy revolution and automotive revolution, and the challenges of the energy revolution lie in intelligent zero-carbon energy. The automotive revolution is progressing from electrification to intelligent and internet-connected while electric vehicles will interlink mobility, energy and information. The friendly interaction between the vehicles and power grids, as well as the integration of people, vehicles, roads and cloud is essential. The key technologies of electric vehicle power train, batteries and internet of vehicles will be discussed. The integration of energy, information, transportation and humanity will also be highlighted. Our ultimate goal is the harmonious coexistence between human and nature.

 

About the Speaker

Professor C. C. Chan, SBS, holds BSc, MSc, PhD, HonDSc, and HonDTech degrees. He is a Distinguished Chair Professor and Director of Research Centre for Electric Vehicles at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Besides, he is the founder of the International Academicians Science and Technology Innovation Centre, a Visiting Professor at MIT, the University of Cambridge, etc. In addition to the capacity of Founding President of the World Electric Vehicle Association, Professor Chan also serves as a Senior Consultant to governments, Strategic Adviser or Independent Director of public companies and industries. His contribution is globally recognized, being named an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, U.K., Honorary Fellow of the Hungarian Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the Ukraine Academy of Engineering Sciences, Life Fellow of IEEE, Fellow of IET, and Honorary Fellow of HKIE. Professor Chan is the recipient of the Royal Academy of Engineering Prince Philip Medal, Chinese Academy of Engineering Guang-Hua Prize, World Federation of Engineering (WFEO) Medal of Engineering Excellence, Silver Bauhinia Star Medal of the HKSAR Government, 2022 Touching China Character, Gold Medal of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, IEEE Transportation Technologies Award, and “Father of Asian Electric Vehicles” by Magazine Global View. His major research field includes the philosophy and key technologies of electric vehicles and intelligent energy systems. He published 17 books and over 450 technical papers and holds 10 patents.
