Overview
National Education can help students understand the history and culture of China and Hong Kong SAR‚ P.R.C. The content covers modern Chinese history‚ the restoration of Hong Kong to the People’s Republic of China in 1997‚ including the Hong Kong Basic Law and the constitutional principle of “one country, two systems”, and the Hong Kong National Security Law. By gaining the related knowledge, students can have a better understanding of the constitutional order and national security matters in Hong Kong SAR.
The Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (NSL) has been implemented in Hong Kong since 23:00 on 30 June 2020. It is stated that universities should carry out national security education for students and nurture them to become responsible and law-abiding citizens (Article 10). Hence‚ students should understand the concept and importance of national security in different domains such as economic, political and environmental aspects of national security‚ as well as national security risks with reference to historical events in modern Chinese history. Furthermore, students are also required to understand the offenses and related cases related to the NSL.
