Prof. HARTMAIER is currently the Professor of Materials Science (Chair in Mechanics of Materials) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum/Germany and Director at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation (ICAMS), heading the department Micromechanical and Macroscopic Modelling. Since 2016 he is guest professor at the Harbin Institute of Technology/China within the Jang Chiang Scholar Program. Besides his academic activities, Prof. HARTMAIER has been chairman of the German Materials Society (DGM) from 2017 to 2018. The focus of his research work lies on scale bridging modelling of deformation and fracture mechanisms of structural materials. Of particular interest are micro mechanical methods to study various size effects in materials that are described with atomistic, dislocation-based and crystal plasticity methods. Furthermore, his scientific work includes applications of indentation experiments in conjunction with inverse modelling as a probe of local material properties.
