PolyU is set to establish a network of technology and innovation research institutes in key Mainland cities. This initiative strategically aligns PolyU's research prowess and knowledge transfer expertise with regional industrial needs, fostering innovation and driving economic growth. By extending its reach, PolyU aims to significantly contribute to China's scientific and technological advancement.

 

PolyU-Zhongshan alliance: pioneering biomedical innovation

In a landmark move, PolyU and the Zhongshan Municipal People's Government signed a cooperation agreement in July 2024 to establish the "PolyU-Zhongshan Technology and Innovation Research Institute". Announced at the Zhongshan Global Investment Promotion Conference, this collaboration aims to accelerate biomedicine development through industry-academia-research cooperation.

 

The Research Institute will focus on the research and development of pharmaceutical products to improve community healthcare, collaborating with local hospitals to translate research outcomes into practical applications. This initiative is poised to boost Zhongshan's development and strengthen innovation and technology (I&T) cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, positioning both entities to capitalise on emerging opportunities in healthcare and I&T.

Jinjiang collaboration marks new era in industry-academia synergy

The PolyU-Jinjiang Technology and Innovation Research Institute (Research Institute) celebrated significant milestones with a Signing Ceremony of the Collaboration Projects and Technology Matchmaking Conference in Jinjiang. The event, attended by nearly 160 officials and enterprise representatives from Quanzhou and Jinjiang, showcased the Research Institute’s achievements and future plans.

 

Notably, the PolyU InnoHub@Jinjiang was launched, welcoming its first five startups and marking a significant step in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the region. The Launch Ceremony also featured agreement signings with various enterprises for technology transfer and joint laboratories, as well as the plaque unveiling ceremony of a joint laboratory with Jinjiang Topone Anti-mold Material Company. The day included a visit to the Research Institute and the new PolyU InnoHub@Jinjiang by both parties’ representatives, engaging with the first batch of five inaugural startups.

 

The celebration culminated in a friendly football match between the PolyU United Football Team and the Jinjiang Municipal Football Team at the Jinjiang Football Training Centre. With 388 spectators, the football match not only displayed athletic prowess but also strengthened the bond between PolyU and Jinjiang.
