Research Overview

Dr Rohne is a cultural historian with over 15 years of international experience in the art market, specialising in interdisciplinary approaches that merge humanities, sociology, and arts management. His theoretical and applied research, developed through ethnographic fieldwork in East Asia, Europe, and Africa, examines issues of conspicuous consumption, cultural mobility, mass culture, and global cultural dialogues. His doctoral research at HKUST focused on the modern history of East Asian contemporary collections and collectors, deconstructing elitist Eurocentric collecting patterns, tracing the emergence of American-style philanthropy, and analysing hybrid dialogues between Eastern and Western consumption and culture through art, design, and fashion.
