Project Title
Harnessing brain plasticity to enhance vision in patients with visual impairment

Synopsis

Visual impairment refers to a significant loss of vision that cannot be corrected with standard optical aids such as glasses or contact lenses. This condition encompasses a wide spectrum, ranging from partial sightedness to total blindness, and can be caused by various factors, including ocular diseases, injuries, or neurological diseases. Individuals with visual impairment may experience challenges in performing daily tasks, navigating their environment, and engaging in activities that require clear vision, thus dampening their mobility, independence, and quality of life.

To address this major public health issue, my project explores the potential of harnessing brain plasticity with sensory tetanic stimulation in enhancing vision and corresponding functional performance.  It also explores the combined use of multisensory training to improve visual function, highlighting the need for a home-friendly treatment approach to enhance patient adherence. The goal is to establish standardized paradigms and home-friendly treatment approaches, ultimately aiming to improve the quality of life of visually impaired patients.
