Project Title
Mechanistic effects of baicalein in TGFb1-induced glaucoma model

Synopsis

Glaucoma is a chronic eye disease that can slowly affect the people’s peripheral vision (the edges of the vision) over a prolonged period. In the worst situation, glaucoma can lead to blindness. The damage caused by glaucoma cannot be reversed, so it is important to receive timely treatment at the early stage. The current treatment for glaucoma is limited to IOP-lowering eye drops such as prostaglandin analogues and adrenergic antagonists. However, glaucoma medications have limitations and significant side effects, thereby affecting patent compliance and treatment prognosis. Hence, discovering a safe medicine with long-lasting effect is essential for the glaucoma treatment. The objective of this project is to investigate the therapeutic potentials of flavonoids as an anti-glaucoma agent using both in vitro and in vivo models.
