宗旨及特色

本课程为四年全日制组合,旨在训练学生在数学、统计及计算机编程的能力与技巧,特别注重相关技巧在投资及金融分析、数据科学及分析方面的应用。此组合课程包括以下两个本科主修课程:


数据科学及分析(荣誉)理学士 
此主修课程重点培育兼具数学、统计及计算机科学跨学科专业知识的毕业生,特别注重将数据转化成有助决策的实用信息。


投资科学及金融分析(荣誉)理学士 
本课程旨在培训兼具数理分析能力、金融投资概念及计算机编程基础的金融分析人才,为他们日后从事投资银行、基金及风险管理、金融数据分析、投资产品开发等工作,奠定扎实的基础。

专业认可及就业前景

本组合内容涵盖多个专业团体的专业资格评核条件,包括1)香港证券及投资学会、2)香港统计学会、3)皇家统计学会,毕业生可申请豁免有关专业资格评核的部分要求,可更快获取相关专业资格。

*持有经济/金融或相关学位资格的毕业生,只需在证券及期货从业员资格考试卷一考取合格成绩便可申请牌照,并可豁免卷七及八。学生须向香港证券及投资学会递交申请,在指定试卷中取得满意成绩的考生将获考虑豁免。详情请浏览此网址

 

此外,「投资科学及金融分析(荣誉)理学士」课程设计涵盖「特许金融分析师考试」大部份范围,并已获得特许金融分析师协会(CFA Institute)认证大学毕业课程资格,就读本课程的同学将来参加特许金融分析师考试更可申请其奖学金。

 

本课程设计有助建立学生的分析力、解难能力、沟通技巧等,为毕业生从事各行各业,例如电讯业、信息科技、市场研究、药剂、投资银行、基金及风险管理、投资产品开发等工作,奠定扎实的基础。

 

本课程的毕业生出路广泛,就业前景优良。不少校友加入投资银行担任前线或后援岗位,负责基金管理、风险管理、金融产品开发及定价等性质的工作,发挥所长。此外,不少毕业生还负笈海外进修,曾到牛津大学、剑桥大学、耶鲁大学、哥伦比亚大学等著名学府,攻读硕士课程。

课程结构

本组合课程的所有学生将在一年级修读一系列基础科目,并于二年级时选取其中一个主修课程。

 

一年级:大学核心课程,组合课程的基础科目,例如Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability & Distributions, Programming Fundamentals。 

 

二年级:学生可按兴趣选择就读其中一个主修课程,完成组合课程余下的基础科目,例如Introduction to Statistics, Database System, Principles of Programming, Applied Linear Models, Operations Research Methods等后,开始修读主修课程 -- 「数据科学及分析」或「投资科学及金融分析」的必修科目。

 

三年级:主修课程的大部份必修科目,包括 

  • 数据科学及分析: Statistical Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, Decision Analysis and Optimization Methods 

  • 投资科学及金融分析: Corporate Finance, Theory of Interest and Portfolio Analysis, Investment, Derivative Pricing, and Econometrics

 

四年级:个别主修课程提供的选修科目,包括statistics, data science, computing science, finance and investment, health and medical informatics, and urban informatics。另外还须完成一项专题研究,在老师的指导下,将所学知识应用于科研实践。

副主修

修读数据科学(荣誉)理学士组合课程的学生可修读创新及创业或人工智能及数据分析为副主修课程:

遴选标准

修读副主修课程并非必修课程。只有成绩平均绩点为 2.70 或以上的学生才会被考虑修读副主修课程。副主修课程或有额外的遴选标准。学生成绩平均绩点必须达到2.70 或以上,并于第二学年开始前提交申请,在获得学系的批准后,才能修读副主修课程。

 

学分要求

修读创新及创业副主修的「数据科学及分析(荣誉)理学士学位课程」学生须完成148#个学分,以达毕业要求。修读人工智能及数据分析副主修的「投资科学及金融分析(荣誉)理学士学位课程」学生须完成153^个学分,以达毕业要求。

学生心声

I chose the BSc (Hons) in Investment Science and Finance Analytics (ISFA) primarily because I was attracted by its quantitative training, along with an emphasis on practical application. This programme offers a diverse range of elective subjects, including statistics, finance and computer science, that allow students to fully explore their interests and develop a passion for various fields such as data science and financial engineering. We have ample learning opportunities beyond the classroom. For example, there are opportunities to conduct research under the supervision of a Professor. Moreover, internship opportunities and training workshops are arranged to equip us with the necessary skills for career advancement. During my exchange at the National University of Singapore, I gained invaluable experience that I will cherish forever. The ISFA programme provides an exceptional platform for students to achieve both academic and personal growth, while also fostering an international perspective.

Dong Nanxi

PolyU’s Investment Science programme first caught my attention when I was in high school, as it offered a blend of statistics, programming and finance, and a balance of academic and practical modules. The academic courses prepared me for further study, while the research and work experience opportunities kept me informed about my career options.

 

I graduated from the BSc (Hons) in Investment Science in 2022 and went on to study a Master’s in Data Science at EPFL in Switzerland. When I decided to pursue a Master’s, I found that most of the programmes required candidates to have a statistics- or data science-related background. As I gained the necessary knowledge and skills at PolyU, EPFL recognised my academic qualification to take their Master’s.

 

One of the most memorable events of my time at PolyU was the study trip to Melbourne, during which I visited several renowned Australian universities. As a mainland student, I also had a fun time exploring Hong Kong. All in all, I experienced great cultural exposure and gained global insights. It was also an opportunity to make friends with people from diverse backgrounds. 

ZHANG Xingyue

I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Investment Science from PolyU’s Department of Applied Mathematics (AMA) in 2022. I chose this programme because it not only provided a solid foundation in mathematics and statistics, but also developed my flexible application skills in finance. At university, I participated in industry networking events, such as the CAGAHK Mentorship Programme and the "INSPIRE" Mentorship Programme, as well as training workshops in Python and VBA. During onsite meetings and company visits, my mentors shared their entrepreneurial stories, career experience and personal choices at different stages of their learning. These insights served as a great asset for my career planning and inspired me to achieve my professional goals. Moreover, PolyU provided me with many opportunities to acquire a better global vision. One of the most memorable events for me was the service-learning trip to Taiwan. To help Southeast Asian immigrants connect to their hometowns, we set up a cultural night market and held a fundraising dinner hosted by the Pearl Buck Foundation. Witnessing the difficulties faced by immigrants roused our awareness of racial equality and other social issues. Overall, the knowledge and skills I gained from this programme prepared me well for the next stage of my studies in statistics. The valuable learning experience with AMA has inspired me to pursue my goal.

Wang Kexin

Investment Science is an interdisciplinary programme covering mathematics, statistics, finance and computer science. It therefore equips students with knowledge from a range of fields. By the time I graduated in 2022, I had gained not only theoretical knowledge but also professional experience. My internship as a student research assistant offered me a great opportunity to undertake scientific research under the supervision of and in collaboration with my professors. This unforgettable experience inspired me to pursue postgraduate study and develop my research career.

 

As part of the university’s extracurricular programme, I participated in a six-week exchange to Romania, working as a volunteer teacher, which gave me experience of living independently. As a member of the organising committee, I developed my leadership and teamwork skills through organising an orientation week for over 500 freshers from more than 30 countries.

 

Reflecting on my time, I am grateful I chose the IS programme at PolyU. It has served as a great platform to pursue my dreams.
