Nanjing Library is the third largest library in China and the fourth largest in Asia.
During my internship there, I rotated between Historical Archive Department and Reader’s Service Department, which comprised various reading rooms and a children’s library. In Historical Archive Department, I learnt how to protect and restore antique books and periodicals. In Reader’s Service Department, I offered assistance to readers.
My greatest accomplishment was to run activities for children in the children’s library by coordinating with colleagues and instructors. Besides, to ensure the smooth running, we had to take children’s reaction into consideration as well as take good care of them during the activities. When I saw the children and their parents enjoying the activities, it gave me great satisfaction.
This internship experience was rare and meaningful! I appreciate the opportunity to learn from different departments and know more about the operation of a library.
