Mandatory Provident Fund
Students taking internships locally should pay special attention to the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF).
According to the Mandatory Provident Fund Authority (MPFA), except for exempt persons, employees (regular or casual) and self-employed persons who are at least 18 but under 65 years old are required to join an MPF scheme.
For details, please visit the MPFA website.
Students should also note that participation in local internship programme does not necessarily result in an employer-employee relationship, and students are advised to reach a consensus with the offering organisation on the nature of the internship and have it indicated clearly in the relevant agreement document.
The website is about MPF provisions for Hong Kong residents engaging in any salaried work.
