Prof. Chu Hunglam delivered a talk entitled "Relevance of Chinese Culture to the Contemporary World" on 1 November 2023.

Professor Chu Hung-lam has served PolyU as the founding Head of its Department of Chinese Culture (now named Department of Chinese History and Culture) and Dean of its Faculty of Humanities. Currently a Distinguished Research Professor in his home Department, he is also the Lead Expert of the Zhu Honglin [Chu Hung-lam] Workshop of the Chinese Academy of History in the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. His ongoing projects include a systematic study of China’s local governance in the last 700 years and a history of PolyU from its early days in the 1930s.

In this talk, Prof. Chu draws on traditional Chinese beliefs, thoughts, and practices to address current global issues that are threatening humanity’s well-being and sustainability. It will elucidate Chinese ideas and concepts regarding how individuals manage themselves and their relationships with various stakeholders (social, natural, and supernatural), contributing to humanity’s growth and betterment.
