"Our Nation's Deep Space Aspirations and Impacts"
Prof. Yung delivered a talk entitled “Our Nation’s Deep Space Aspirations and Impacts” on 9 January 2024.
Prof. Yung is an Associate Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Director of the Research Centre for Deep Space Explorations of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In 1986, he joined the Hong Kong Productivity Council as a Consultant and subsequently switched to academia to join the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
In this talk, Prof Yung elaborated our nation’s deep space explorations had a late start. Through years of hard work‚ and the upgrade of the industrial supply chain as a whole‚ some good results have been attained. The deep space exploration has a pulling effect to our industry for quality products which also benefits the space industry as a whole. The impacts of our Nation’s space program will be explored in this talk. The talk will cover: start of China’s space missions from the satellites, manned space flight missions, deep space missions and their challenges, the Chang’e series, the Tianwen series, and PolyU’s participation.
