The Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Design (AiDLab), jointly established by PolyU and the Royal College of Art (RCA), hosted the “FASHION X AI” Fashion Show and Forum on 19 December at M+ museum to kick-start its Fashion X AI: 2022 - 2023 International Salon programme and mark the commercial launch of the AI-based Interactive Design Assistant for Fashion (AiDA) via Code-Create, AiDLab’s first spin-off company.

Developed by a team led by Prof. Calvin Wong Wai-keung, Director of AiDLab and Cheng Yik Hung Professor in Fashion of PolyU’s School of Fashion and Textiles, AiDA is the world’s first designer-led AI design system that empowers designers to maximise their creativity and streamline their design processes. Designers can upload their mood boards, materials, colour palettes and sketches onto AiDA and with a few clicks, generate original collections in a matter of seconds.

The Fashion Show, with Create Hong Kong as the lead sponsor, showcased collections developed with AiDA by six international and local fashion brands and eight local young talents. An exclusive AiDA collaboration with renowned fashion brand ANTEPRIMA was also revealed. The Forum showcased PolyU’s vision for AI in the fashion industry and fostered discussion among designers on their experience with AI and the AiDA system.

Fashion X AI: 2022 - 2023 International Salon is an 18-month programme that aims to nurture creative capital, future-proof the industry and promote Hong Kong as a leader in Fashion and AI. It comprises a series of six key events, including Local Young Fashion Talent Mentorship, a fashion show & forum, international symposium, touring exhibitions, workshops and a Massive Open Online Course.
