Regulations in 2023/24

  1. Students must read carefully the General Information on Student Lockers (General Information) available at Student Affairs Office (SAO) webpage (https://www.polyu.edu.hk/sao/student-resources-and-support-section/facilities/student-lockers/general-information/) when applying for use of any lockers provided on campus. Students are deemed to accept these Regulations and the General Information when making the application and are required to comply with them. In the event of inconsistencies between these Regulations and the General Information, these Regulations shall prevail.

  2. Students must observe the usage period and deadline of clearance as specified at the time of their applications. The deadline of clearance in 2023/24 is 20 July 2024. Students are required to vacate and return the locker (leaving it unlocked) on or before the deadline of clearance.

  3. Before submitting the application for a locker, the student should choose the locker location carefully. Request for relocation of locker will be rejected.

  4. The lockers are allocated to students for storing study related items e.g. books, notes, related academic materials and stationery for their convenience of study. Students are not allowed to store items that would cause or likely cause hazards or nuisance to the environment or members of the University (e.g. inflammables, explosives, weapons, pets, etc.). Students are advised not to store personal identity documents, significant amount of cash, digital devices and other valuables at the lockers. The University will not be responsible for any loss of or damage to the items stored inside the lockers. Students store the items at the locker at their own risks and shall take full responsibility for them.

  5. Students should prepare their own padlocks to lock their lockers and submit to SAO within 28 days. The day SAO issued notification of successful application would be counted as day 1. High quality steel-padlocks with base width of 35-40 mm are recommended. Combination padlocks or other padlocks are not recommended. Students should pay frequent visits to the lockers allocated and protect their belongings inside vigilantly.

  6. Students must keep their lockers locked at all times. SAO will issue a warning notice to the locker user if his/her allocated locker is not locked. If the situation is not rectified within six days of the warning notice, SAO reserves the right to lock such locker and suspend it from use. Upon such suspension, the locker user has to apply to SAO via locker.info@polyu.edu.hk in order to continue using the locker. SAO will dispose of the items found inside the suspended locker two months after the issuance of the warning notice or at the end of the usage period, whichever is earlier.

  7. No stickers or posters are allowed on the interior or exterior of the locker.

  8. Use of the student lockers without prior approval of SAO and failure to observe the deadline of clearance are treated as unauthorised use. SAO will force open the unauthorised used locker(s) and dispose of the items found there. The University accepts no responsibility for any loss of or damage to the disposed items.

  9. The University reserves the right to force open the locker and dispose of/surrender the items found inside without prior notice to the locker users in the event of an emergency, it is necessary to do so in order to protect the health and safety of the University (or its members), or for compliance with the law enforcement authorities. The University will not be responsible for any loss of or damage to such items.

  10. Violation of these Regulations may result in termination of the use of locker, rejection of future locker use application and force opening of the locker. SAO will charge an administrative fee of HK$100 for forcing open a locker of unauthorised use (including overdue) and HK$100 per day for unauthorised occupancy (including overdue).

  11. Students are advised to note that misuse of university amenities (such as the lockers) may lead to disciplinary actions:

    • The locker allocated by SAO shall only be used by the locker applicant personally. Students shall not allow other person or any outsider(s) to use the locker.

    • Storage of any illegal items or those that may or likely cause hazards or nuisance to the environment or members of the University (e.g. inflammables, explosives, weapons, pets, etc.) is strictly prohibited.

Attention: Locker Clearance

All locker users should take note that the deadline of clearance in 2023/24 is 20 July 2024. They are required to vacate and return the lockers on or before the deadline of clearance. If a user fails to do so, SAO will force open the locker, dispose of the items found inside, and charge the user HK$100 administrative fee for forcing open a locker and HK$100 per day for unauthorised occupancy.
