- Students will be awarded one of the following awards upon successful completion of the graduation requirements of the programme concerned:
- BSc (Hons) in Computer Science [計算機科學(榮譽)理學士]; and
- BSc (Hons) in Enterprise Information Systems [企業信息管理(榮譽)理學士];
- Students are allowed to enrol on any awards without being subject to further assessment.
What's New
All admitted students will embark on a Common Year One curriculum. Towards the end of year one, students can decide whether to continue with their initial choice or switch to another choice within the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences. Those who wish to change to another choice need to join a competitive process through a ranking assessment.
Programme Aims & Learning Outcomes
The BSc (Hons) Scheme in Computing and AI consists of the following degrees. It aims to give students the flexibility to choose their degree in their first year of study.
- The BSc (Hons) in Computer Science aims to equip graduates with solid computing foundations in areas such as programming, computational thinking, data structures and algorithms, which will allow them to develop professional computer systems and software. Students develop strong problem-solving abilities and become highly competent in software development for virtually all sectors.
- The BSc (Hons) in Enterprise Information Systems aims to provide graduates with a good foundation in both business and technical skills. Graduates are extremely competent in investigating business systems, identifying options for improving those systems and bridging the needs of business with the use of IT. They also have the ability to develop information systems and manage business projects in the commercial sector.
Programme Characteristics
BSc (Hons) Scheme in Computing and AI
- Common first year. Students admitted to the Scheme do not need to decide on their final degree in the first year of study and can select their study paths in the second year.
- Rich study pathways. The programme’s relatively few core credits give students the flexibility to take on a Minor study in other disciplines they are interested in, such as Business Administration, Financial Services, Social Science or other Engineering disciplines. They can also take additional Computing subjects to continue or specialise in one or more technical stream.
- Applied and practical. The curriculum covers up-to-date practical skills in both content and teaching methodology, e.g., iPhone technology.
- Master’s degree. Students can be admitted into the Department’s Master’s programme. They can gain a Master’s degree with one extra year of study.
- Recognition and Scholarship. Many departmental scholarships are available for students, recognising both their academic and non-academic performance.
Computer Science - BSc (Hons)
- Features a rich set of electives that cover real-life applications, such as data mining, multimedia and game programming, e- commerce, or financial and social computing.
- Minor option. Students can apply to pursue a Minor study in any discipline.
- Students with backgrounds in arts, science or business can apply.
Enterprise Information Systems - BSc (Hons)
- A balanced curriculum that covers technology, management and business and emphasises both computing techniques and applications and software design and development skills in the business sector, covering areas such as logistics, customer relations, auditing and control.
- Minor option. Students can apply to pursue a Minor study in any discipline.
- Students with backgrounds in arts, science or business can apply.
Professional Recognition
The programmes have been granted full accreditation by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE).
Graduates of all programmes can become members of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
Those with appropriate work experience can become professional members of the ACM Hong Kong Chapter (HK Chapter) and enjoy the right to vote for the LEGCO Technology and Innovation functional constituency representative. Graduates can also join the IEEE Hong Kong Section Computer Society Chapter.
Career Prospects
BSc (Hons) in Computer Science graduates can become programmers, system developers, software engineers, sales engineers or webmasters. Our graduates find employment opportunities in sectors such as the government, software businesses, e-commerce, banking, finance, public facilities and freight forwarding.
BSc (Hons) in Enterprise Information Systems graduates can take up technical positions as programmers, system analysts, system developers, software engineers and system administrators, and less technical positions including technical sales and sales engineers, project managers, web administrators and web services designers.

Computer Science - BSc (Hons)

Year One: Fundamental knowledge, laying the foundation for university study, a taste of the Scheme.

Year Two: Generic broad computing skills, and basic business and management concepts.

Year Three: Strengthening computing technologies and applications in IT.

Final Year: Specialisation in different areas such as data mining, computer graphics, e-commerce, Internet computing, multimedia computing and game programming.
Enterprise Information Systems - BSc (Hons)

Year One: Fundamental knowledge, laying the foundation for university study and gaining a taste of the Scheme.

Year Two: Basic computing and IT concepts, underlying technologies, business, accounting and management concepts.

Year Three: A broadening year featuring various aspects of computing skills and knowledge of enterprise information systems.

Final Year: Specialisation in areas such as information system management, audit & control, decision support, knowledge & project management, business process management, logistics and workflow.
